about

During COVID lockdown in 2020 Red Mouth and a select few friends got to work on music. Not knowing it would be anything other than songwriting and arrangement notes it turned into quite a musical adventure that churned out a group of songs Red and crew are immensely proud of. Recorded by any means necessary from locations spanning states in some cases, this collection of songs inject a new direction in sounds marking yet another new turn in the ever evolving sonic vibrations that are the Red Mouth canon. Lo-fi became an instrument unto itself and fuzz pedals to the forefront in ways not heard from Red in years. This EP marks a change in the wind that will no doubt be further explored after the release of the long lost full length, Et Tu Bruté, later this year. For Red this release represents a thankful nod to the punk EPs of the 80s and 90s. This may be the best place to dip your toes in yet.

PS There is no intention to release this EP digitally in full. If you wish to hear the full recording order the vinyl record here on Bandcamp.

lyrics

The devil and Jesus can't have the money to themselves this time
We're keeping it for ourselves for pens and paper and documenting all these crimes

An Elder called on us to write a song
A song of love, a song of hope
And, when he called again we washed his tongue with soap
He sputtered and he spittled and he cursed and he coughed
And, his drool it turned thick and rich and black

When the devil showed up he cut my strings
He said, "Go on, now, you're on your own, but, I'll teach you one thing. Beware of my father for he is worse than me."

Red Mouth Muscle Shoals, Alabama

A strange brew of Son House, Captian Beefheart, Elvis and Nick Cave, backboned by stomping, driving Muscle Shoals rhythms. All resulting in a gospel experience through a gothic Alabama that your typical singer songwriters won't be guiding you anytime soon. ... more
